Litecoin Climbs Over 2% as Whale Holdings Grow and Price Breaks Key Resistance
Litecoin (LTC) experienced a significant price surge, climbing over 2% on Monday, reaching $88 from $85.05 within a 24-hour period. This upward trend, characterized by higher lows and substantial trading volume, is largely attributed to growing optimism surrounding potential approval of a Litecoin spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Bloomberg ETF analysts, Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart, estimate a 90% probability of SEC approval, a sentiment echoed by Polymarket traders who assign a 76% chance. This positive outlook is further reinforced by on-chain data from Santiment, revealing a notable increase in Litecoin holdings by whales (wallets holding substantial amounts of LTC) – from 25.8 million to 27.8 million tokens since mid-April.
CoinDesk Research’s technical analysis model corroborates the bullish price action. The observed pattern of higher lows and higher highs indicates increasing buyer demand. The significant trading volume accompanying each price increase suggests sustained institutional interest rather than short-lived retail speculation. Key support levels emerged around $86.50, where consistent buyer intervention was observed, while resistance near $87.80 was ultimately overcome following a concentrated surge in trading activity.
The price movement was driven by three distinct buying waves that successfully broke through resistance levels. One particularly notable surge involved the trading of nearly 28,000 tokens, effectively transforming previous resistance into a new support floor just above $88. Following this decisive move, selling pressure significantly diminished. This confluence of positive indicators – increased whale accumulation, high probability of ETF approval, and strong technical analysis – paints a bullish picture for Litecoin in the short term. The sustained volume and clear price action suggest a market driven by more than just fleeting retail interest.
