NYSE Tweaks Rule to List Trump Media’s Bitcoin-Ethereum ETF

Donald Trump’s media company, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), is significantly expanding its involvement in the cryptocurrency market. A key development is the filing with the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) for a rule change to allow the listing of a Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF, known as the Truth Social Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF. This dual-asset fund, proposed by TMTG just last week, would hold Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) in a 3:1 ratio. Crypto.com is designated as the custodian, execution provider, and liquidity provider for the ETF.

The NYSE’s filing, submitted under SEC Rule 19b-4, represents a crucial step toward public trading of the ETF. However, it’s important to note that SEC approval is not guaranteed at this stage. This move follows TMTG’s recent announcement of a planned $2.4 billion fundraising effort to establish its own Bitcoin treasury, although no actual Bitcoin purchases have been publicly reported yet.

The Truth Social ETF is just the beginning of TMTG’s ambitious cryptocurrency strategy. In collaboration with Yorkville Advisors, TMTG is developing a broader range of crypto products under the “America First” branding. These planned offerings include the America First Bitcoin Fund, the America First Blockchain Leaders Fund, and the America First Stablecoin Income Fund. Currently, only the Truth Social ETF has undergone the formal filing process with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The other proposed funds are still under development and their regulatory pathways are yet to be determined.

This aggressive expansion into the crypto space signifies a substantial shift in TMTG’s business model. While the success of these ventures remains to be seen, the scale of the initiative and the high-profile nature of its proponent suggests a significant impact on the intersection of politics and finance, potentially influencing broader market trends and regulatory discussions surrounding cryptocurrencies. The upcoming regulatory scrutiny surrounding these filings will be a key factor determining the future trajectory of TMTG’s crypto endeavors.
