Self Chain Ousts CEO Ravindra Kumar After $50M OTC Scam Allegations

Self Chain, a Layer-1 blockchain project, has terminated its CEO, Ravindra Kumar, following allegations of a significant $50 million over-the-counter (OTC) scam. The accusations, initially surfacing on Friday via Telegram posts from Aza Ventures, implicated Kumar in a series of fraudulent OTC transactions. Kumar responded to the allegations with a denial, stating the accusations were false and that his legal team was preparing a statement.

The incident has had a substantial impact on Self Chain’s token, SLF, which is currently trading on Binance. Following the allegations, SLF experienced a sharp decline, plummeting 35.9% in the past week. This significant drop reflects the market’s immediate and negative reaction to the accusations against the former CEO.

Self Chain issued a formal statement on Monday, confirming Kumar’s termination. The statement explicitly stated that Kumar would have no further association with the company in any capacity. The company further clarified that no founding members were authorized to engage in OTC transactions involving SLF. Any such deals circulating in the market, Self Chain emphasized, lacked official approval or sanction from the team.

Kumar subsequently retweeted Self Chain’s statement and removed all references to his position as CEO from his personal profile. This action appears to be a tacit acknowledgement of the termination and the gravity of the allegations against him.

The nature of OTC transactions – taking place outside regulated exchanges to avoid slippage on large trades – often involves a broker facilitating the deal between buyer and seller. This lack of transparency and regulatory oversight presents an inherent vulnerability to manipulation and fraud, as evidenced by this case. The situation highlights the risks associated with OTC trading within the cryptocurrency ecosystem and underscores the importance of due diligence and transparent practices for blockchain projects and their leadership. The unfolding legal proceedings and investigations will likely provide further clarity into the specifics of the alleged scam and its potential impact on investors.
