SharpLink’s Ether Bet Surpasses $1.3B After Latest Purchase
SharpLink Gaming (SBET), a company chaired by Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin, significantly expanded its Ethereum (ETH) holdings, boosting its total to over $1.3 billion. A recent press release detailed the acquisition of 79,949 ETH last week, representing their largest weekly purchase to date at an average price of $3,238. This brings their total ETH holdings to 360,807 as of July 20th.
This aggressive accumulation strategy, initiated in late May, mirrors Michael Saylor’s approach with Bitcoin at MicroStrategy. SharpLink’s shift to a crypto treasury strategy focused on Ethereum is a notable development, rapidly establishing the firm as a major corporate ETH holder. The company continues its acquisition efforts, possessing $96.6 million in funds raised through an at-the-market equity offering, earmarked for further ETH purchases. Further demonstrating their commitment, SharpLink recently announced an increase to its ATM facility to $6 billion, facilitating even larger future acquisitions. The firm actively participates in Ethereum’s ecosystem, operating validators and staking ETH to generate rewards.
The recent market performance reflects this bullish strategy. Despite ETH experiencing a 2.4% dip in the previous 24 hours, SBET shares saw a 6% premarket increase, indicating positive investor sentiment. Lubin’s optimistic outlook is further fueled by the passing of the GENIUS Act, which he views as a pivotal moment in providing regulatory clarity for blockchain and digital assets. He believes this legislation creates a supportive environment for growth and innovation within the sector.
Lubin’s statement highlights the potential of Ethereum, emphasizing its security, scalability, and smart contract capabilities. He anticipates that this improved regulatory landscape will allow companies like SharpLink to fully leverage Ethereum’s potential, driving substantial changes across the global digital economy. This aligns with Tom Lee’s Bitmine’s ambition to hold 5% of ETH, with Lubin expressing enthusiasm for this competitive landscape, stating, “Game On.” The combined actions of SharpLink and other prominent players signal a significant shift in the corporate adoption of Ethereum.
