Sportfive and Be Media have announced the launch of Onside non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for the 2022 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Championship.
Onside will serve as the official NFT platform for the regional international soccer tournament, which gets underway on 20th December, with the first drop of digital collectibles to take place ahead of the event.
The Animoca Brands subsidiary will mint NFTs featuring tournament assets and video highlights on the Polygon blockchain for distribution via Onside. The Be Media-backed NFT platform will offer users rewards throughout the AFF Championship.
Jordan Fogarty, founder and chief executive of Be Media, said: “Our partnership with Sportfive will bring a
new level of fan engagement and experience to the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022.
“The ASEAN football community features some of the most loyal and passionate fans in the region, and we are proud to have the opportunity to introduce these fans to the new and evolving universe of Web 3.0 products while galvanising football and blockchain enthusiasts.”
The AFF Championship deal comes after Sportfive signed a partnership with Polygon, a move designed to enhance the Hamburg-based agency’s positioning in the Web 3.0 space.
“We are delighted to enter the Web 3.0 space and launch an exciting new era for ASEAN football and its fervent fans,” added Malcolm Thorpe, managing director for South East Asia at Sportfive.
“Immortalising unforgettable moments across the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022 through digital collectibles is the next evolution in fan engagement and we believe this will provide a new unique avenue for supporters to engage
with their teams in the region’s crown jewel football tournament.”
