Tron Looks to go Public in the U.S., Form Strategy Like TRX Holding Firm: FT
Tron, the blockchain platform founded by Justin Sun, is reportedly pursuing a U.S. public listing through a reverse merger with Nasdaq-listed SRM Entertainment. This information comes from a Financial Times report citing sources familiar with the deal. Dominari Securities, an investment firm with connections to the Trump family, is managing the merger. The resulting entity, Tron Inc., will function similarly to MicroStrategy (MSTR), holding a significant quantity of Tron’s TRX tokens. This strategy mirrors Michael Saylor’s Bitcoin-focused firm.
A notable aspect of this planned public listing is the involvement of Eric Trump, son of former President Donald Trump, who will assume a role within Tron Inc. The merger will inject $210 million worth of TRX tokens into the new company. This move follows a trend of cryptocurrency firms going public in the U.S., most recently exemplified by Circle’s successful IPO, where its share price tripled on its first day of trading.
The relationship between Justin Sun and the Trump family is well-documented. Sun’s attendance at a presidential dinner for TRUMP memecoin holders highlights this connection. Furthermore, Sun’s substantial holdings in World Liberty Financial, a DeFi project backed by the Trump family, amounting to $75 million, underscore the depth of this association.
Following Trump’s presidency, the SEC paused a civil fraud case against Sun. In a CoinDesk interview after the aforementioned presidential dinner, Sun expressed his support for Trump and his pro-crypto stance, characterizing it as one of Trump’s best decisions. He also asserted that the cryptocurrency industry is experiencing positive developments. The Financial Times report triggered a nearly 4% surge in TRX’s price, reaching 28 cents. Tron has yet to officially comment on the reported merger. This development adds another layer to the evolving landscape of cryptocurrency and its intersection with traditional finance, particularly given the political connections involved. The substantial investment in TRX tokens and the structure mimicking MicroStrategy’s model highlight a strategic move to increase mainstream adoption and potentially enhance TRX’s value. The involvement of the Trump family adds a complex dimension to the story, raising questions about potential conflicts of interest and the future regulatory environment for cryptocurrency firms in the United States.
