(Reuters) -Albemarle Corp on Tuesday called for lithium prices to remain high indefinitely in order to help the mining industry develop new sources of the electric vehicle (EV) battery metal and fuel the green energy transition. The push for higher prices by the world's largest lithium producer is likely to exacerbate the growing tension between EV manufacturers and mining companies that supply the materials crucial for the all-electric shift, with high metals prices threatening EV profitability. For 2023, Albemarle expects the price it receives for its lithium to jump 40% over 2022 levels.

LONDON (Reuters) -Oil steadied on Wednesday after a decline in the previous session, as a rise in U.S. crude inventories and global recession worries countered optimism for a demand recovery in China. Crude has rallied in 2023, with global benchmark Brent crude topping $89 a barrel this week for the first time since early December on the ending of China's COVID-19 controls and hopes that the rise in U.S. interest rates will soon taper off. "Whether or not oil prices can resume their march higher will depend on how quickly China's crude demand bounces back this quarter," said Stephen Brennock of oil broker PVM.
With the price of eggs making recent headlines for their meteoric price hikes (the cost of a dozen eggs was up 59.9% in Dec. 2022) due to an avian flu, among other contributing factors, it's safe to say food doesn't cost what it used to. In fact, a recent report found grocery prices haven't spiked this high since the 1980s, when inflation was at record highs. For many people who are already feeling the pinch of a cooling labor market and rising interest rates, a rise in the grocery budget is simply out of the question — which is why a new type of budget retailer is rapidly gaining market share.

As Boeing battles disruption in its supply chains, investors will be looking for the largest U.S. planemaker to satisfy questions about its planned ramp-up for commercial jets and set aside concerns over losses in major defense projects when it reports earnings Wednesday. Boeing has seen 737 MAX customer demand recover briskly after two crashes and the COVID-19 pandemic battered the airline industry. Chief Executive Dave Calhoun said in October Boeing has “mitigated these existential moments.”
After growing rapidly in 2020 and 2021, Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) ended 2022 with 2 million fewer Prime members, according to an estimate from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, or CIRP. Amazon says the estimate is not accurate and Prime continues to grow. If Prime membership isn't growing like it was in 2020 and 2021, should investors be worried the company is spending too much to cater to its subscribers?
