Want Americans to Trust AI? Decentralize It

A similar trend is emerging with artificial intelligence. While AI’s potential is widely recognized, concerns exist about centralized control and data privacy. A Harris poll revealed that 74% of Americans believe AI would benefit more people if not controlled by a few large companies, and 65% distrust elected officials to guide its development.
Decentralized AI (deAI) offers a solution. Unlike centralized AI models controlled by corporations, deAI operates on a distributed network, preventing single-point control and empowering users. Policymakers must recognize that a system’s structure dictates its behavior. While debates focus on safety and existential risk, the foundational structure’s impact on trust is often overlooked. Centralized models are inherently vulnerable and opaque. To foster trust and innovation, policymakers should incentivize open ecosystems, ensure data benefits users, and avoid reinforcing Big Tech dominance.
The path forward involves supporting private sector innovation and decentralized development. This approach will create a more open and resilient AI future. Just as Bitcoin transitioned from niche to mainstream, deAI is poised to become the foundation for a fairer, more secure digital ecosystem.
