Worldcoin Rival Humanity Protocol Debuts $1.1B Mainnet for Privacy-First Web2 to Web3 Identity
Humanity Protocol, a blockchain identity network competing with Worldcoin, has launched its mainnet. This launch marks a significant step for the Hong Kong-based startup, which recently secured $20 million in funding, boosting its valuation to $1.1 billion. The core technology behind Humanity Protocol is zkTLS (zero-knowledge transport layer security), enabling users to verify their identity and credentials without compromising privacy.
Unlike Worldcoin’s iris-scanning approach, Humanity Protocol employs cryptographic proofs. This means sensitive data remains within the user’s browser, eliminating the privacy concerns associated with biometric methods. The system allows users to connect their Web2 credentials, such as frequent-flyer miles or educational achievements, to their “Human ID” on the Web3 network. This creates a portable reputation system usable across various platforms.
Initially, the focus is on travel, enabling users to link loyalty programs directly to their Human ID. However, the protocol’s design supports a wider range of credentials, including financial and professional qualifications. Future plans include expanding node infrastructure globally and developing on-chain ticketing and decentralized governance features.
Founder and CEO Terence Kwok highlights the practicality of the mainnet launch, emphasizing that users can verify their identity and accomplishments without centralized data collection. The architecture is designed to prevent Sybil attacks—where individuals create multiple fake identities to manipulate a system. By utilizing cryptographic proofs, the network enables the creation of Sybil-resistant social platforms, reputation-based marketplaces, and AI “humanity checks,” all without compromising user data security.
