XRP Futures Volume on Kraken Eclipses Sol for 1st Time as Price Soars to Record

XRP (XRP) perpetual futures trading volume on Kraken has surpassed that of Solana (SOL) for the first time. Kraken reported XRP futures trading volume exceeding $3.48 billion this month, outperforming SOL’s $3.23 billion. This surge in XRP activity follows a significant price increase of over 40%, reaching a record high of $3.66. In contrast, SOL’s price rose by only 17% to $181.

Kraken attributes the increased XRP trading volume to renewed market optimism fueled by the resolution of the SEC lawsuit and a perceived shift towards a more crypto-friendly regulatory environment in the U.S. Alexia Theodorou, Kraken’s head of derivatives, highlighted the significant price increase from approximately $0.50 before the election to a new all-time high, emphasizing XRP’s role as a key indicator for broader crypto market speculation.

Despite XRP’s larger market capitalization ($184 billion versus SOL’s $97 billion), open interest—the number of active futures contracts—reveals a different picture. Kraken’s data shows that SOL futures have significantly higher open interest ($55 million) compared to XRP ($34 million). This suggests a higher level of speculative activity surrounding SOL futures on Kraken, while XRP’s market may be dominated by long-term holders.

Globally, the open interest for XRP futures stands at $8.53 billion, slightly behind SOL’s $10.69 billion. Bitcoin and Ether maintain their leading positions with open interests of $83 billion and $55 billion, respectively. The disparity between trading volume and open interest highlights the different market dynamics at play for these cryptocurrencies. While XRP’s trading volume has surged on Kraken, driven by positive sentiment and regulatory developments, SOL maintains a higher level of speculative activity reflected in its global open interest. This divergence underscores the complexity of the cryptocurrency market and the varying factors impacting individual assets.
