a16z Crypto Leads $7M Round in KYD Labs That Aims to Transform Ticketing Industry
KYD Labs, a blockchain-based ticketing platform, secured $7 million in seed funding led by a16z Crypto. This investment fuels KYD’s expansion in the live event sector, building on its success with venues like New York’s Le Poisson Rouge (LPR). Founded by former Ticketmaster product manager Ahmed Nimale and ad-tech entrepreneur David Barrick, KYD directly addresses longstanding revenue and data control issues within the ticketing industry.
Traditional ticketing systems often leave artists and venues with significantly reduced revenue and limited access to valuable fan data. KYD’s platform, built on the Solana blockchain, aims to revolutionize this by providing direct access to revenue streams and fan insights. The platform boasts a streamlined user experience, enabling ticket purchases in under 30 seconds using only a phone number, eliminating the need for complex cryptocurrency wallets.
LPR has already experienced substantial benefits since adopting KYD’s system, reporting a 30% increase in ticket sales and millions in additional income. Shannon Wiles, LPR’s Marketing Director, highlights a doubled return on investment and improved efficiency. KYD’s success is further evidenced by its processing of $4 million in ticket sales and generating over $1 million in revenue within the past year.
Looking ahead, KYD plans to introduce two new protocol layers: the $KYD token, providing capital for venues and tours, and the $TIX reward token, incentivizing fan loyalty. These tokens are designed to bolster financial stability for artists and venues while fostering stronger community engagement. The company projects expansion to over 100 U.S. venues by 2026, with long-term ambitions to power live event commerce globally in major arenas.
Nimale emphasizes KYD’s mission: “We built KYD, which stands for ‘Keep Your Distribution,’ to ensure no artist or venue ever has to ask again for something that is rightfully theirs.” By leveraging blockchain technology, KYD Labs presents a compelling alternative to established ticketing giants, promising greater autonomy for artists and venues, while offering fans a significantly improved ticketing experience. Nimale will be speaking at CoinDesk’s Consensus 2025 in Toronto.
