Prometheum Eyes U.S. Tokenization Boom With Acquisition and Fully Regulated Stack

Prometheum, a digital asset securities firm, is strategically positioning itself within the burgeoning tokenization market. The company has acquired ProFinancial, a FINRA-member and SEC-registered broker-dealer, enabling it to offer primary sales of tokenized securities. This acquisition complements Prometheum Coinery, its SEC-registered digital transfer agent responsible for managing shareholder records and corporate actions on and off the blockchain.

These additions integrate with Prometheum’s existing services, including custody, clearing, and secondary trading through its affiliated broker-dealers, Prometheum Capital and Prometheum ATS. This creates a vertically integrated platform for bringing real-world assets onto blockchain technology, a crucial element as tokenization gains momentum.

Co-CEO Aaron Kaplan highlights the growing need for infrastructure to support the on-chain movement of securities and commodities, predicting significant market expansion. Prometheum’s comprehensive platform aims to capitalize on this growth, offering a fully compliant solution within U.S. securities laws.

The company’s expansion coincides with increasing regulatory openness toward digital assets and the rapid growth of the tokenization sector. Reports from BCG, Ripple, McKinsey, and 21Shares project the tokenized asset market to reach trillions of dollars in the coming years. This is driving competition among tokenization firms, with recent acquisitions and registrations reflecting the industry’s rapid evolution. Competitors such as Superstate and Securitize have also made strategic moves to establish themselves in this space.

Prometheum differentiates itself by prioritizing the complex aspects of tokenization—trading and post-trading infrastructure—before focusing on the simpler creation of digital tokens. Kaplan argues this approach provides a more robust and sustainable foundation for long-term success, contrasting it with the strategies of other firms that initially focused on token creation. The company’s acquisition of ProFinancial and registration of Prometheum Coinery solidify its position as a leading U.S.-regulated player in the tokenization market.
