Aptos-Backed Decibel Unveils On-Chain Trading Platform With CEX Speed
Decibel, a novel on-chain trading protocol, has launched on the Aptos devnet, integrating spot trading, perpetual futures, and yield strategies within a unified interface. Currently in an invite-only test phase, this platform offers simulated access to advanced features including cross-margin trading, composable vaults, and high-speed order execution. The goal is to replicate the performance of centralized exchanges while maintaining the transparency inherent in decentralized finance (DeFi).
This launch is timely, coinciding with a surge in demand for high-performance on-chain infrastructure. Data reveals that decentralized exchanges (DEXs) processed over $876 billion in volume during the second quarter alone, with weekly DeFi activity exceeding $48 billion across more than 14 million wallets. This underscores the growing need for efficient and scalable DeFi solutions.
Decibel is a collaborative effort, backed by the Decibel Foundation, responsible for protocol development, and Aptos Labs, the creators of the underlying layer-1 blockchain. Built natively on Aptos, Decibel is envisioned as a cornerstone of the blockchain’s financial ecosystem, acting as an execution layer complementing Aptos’s stablecoin payment systems and Shelby, its decentralized data storage protocol.
Oliver Bell, board director at the Decibel Foundation, emphasizes the platform’s ambition: “We’re not just building another trading platform — we’re creating the execution layer.” Decibel’s architecture directly tackles prevalent issues such as fragmentation and inefficient capital utilization. Its multi-collateral system enables vault deposits to function as collateral, streamlining operations.
Aptos Labs played a crucial role in Decibel’s development and will continue supporting its growth through a partnership with the Decibel Foundation. Future development plans include scaling performance to an impressive 1 million orders per second, with block times under 20 milliseconds. Achieving these targets would position Decibel competitively with leading centralized exchanges. The platform’s integrated approach and focus on performance aim to significantly enhance the on-chain trading experience.
