BounceBit Adds Franklin Templeton Tokenized Fund for Treasury-Backed Yield Strategies

BounceBit, a crypto infrastructure provider blending centralized and decentralized finance (CeDeFi), is integrating Franklin Templeton’s tokenized money market fund into its structured yield platform, BB Prime. This innovative move combines the stability of U.S. Treasury yields with the dynamic opportunities of crypto funding and basis arbitrage strategies.

The integration utilizes Franklin Templeton’s BENJI tokenized money market fund, part of a growing $7 billion asset class. These funds are increasingly used as collateral and settlement instruments within DeFi. This allows investors to benefit from the underlying Treasury yield while simultaneously accessing additional return streams. This approach represents a significant step forward in the tokenization of traditional financial assets.

Franklin Templeton, a pioneer in this space, launched its BENJI tokenized U.S. money market fund in 2021. The firm emphasizes the versatility of its BENJI products, designed to cater to a broad spectrum of clients including retail, wealth management, institutional investors, banks, and collateral users. This adaptability underlines the expanding applications of tokenized assets within the financial ecosystem.

BounceBit’s collaboration with Franklin Templeton marks a pivotal moment, representing the first practical application of tokenized Treasuries in active yield strategies. BounceBit CEO Jack Lu highlights the significance of this partnership, stating that it signifies the transition of institutional-grade real-world asset (RWA) products from experimental phases to scalable, operational infrastructure.

This development builds upon BounceBit’s previous success. A pilot program utilizing BlackRock’s BUIDL token (backed by short-term U.S. government securities) as collateral for a bitcoin derivatives strategy yielded impressive results, exceeding 20% annualized returns. This demonstrates the potential for combining traditional financial instruments with crypto strategies to enhance yield. BlackRock’s BUIDL token is gaining traction as collateral on various exchanges, showcasing broader industry acceptance. The collaborative efforts of other financial giants like Bank of New York Mellon and Goldman Sachs in rolling out their own tokenized money market funds further underscores the growing trend.

BB Prime, BounceBit’s platform, is currently accepting pre-registrations before its public launch, signaling a potentially significant shift in how traditional finance intersects with the decentralized world.
