Bitcoin Cash Stages Surprise Run to Near $500 as Volumes Spike 500%
Bitcoin Cash (BCH) surged to a two-month high, exceeding $499, driven by institutional buying amidst broader market uncertainty and escalating global trade tensions. This rally positions BCH near the crucial $500 level, last seen during April’s breakout attempt.
The price increase is attributed to capital flowing into mid-cap cryptocurrencies like BCH as the US and China intensify trade disputes, impacting global supply chains. The Federal Reserve’s continued hawkish stance, maintaining interest rates at 4.25%-4.50% and signaling further tightening, contributes to the risk-off environment, benefiting assets like BCH.
Despite past volatility and waning retail interest, BCH is experiencing renewed institutional attention. Analysts highlight its simple scaling mechanisms, rapid transaction settlement, and established technical base above $400 as key attractions. Sustained momentum could solidify $500 as long-term support, significantly altering BCH’s outlook for the third quarter.
Over 24 hours, BCH rallied from $461.87 to $492.08, fueled by substantial inflows. A significant volume spike—over five times the hourly average—between 13:00 and 14:00 confirmed institutional involvement. While encountering resistance at $500, the price showed resilience, briefly dipping to $491.47 before recovering above $485, consolidating just below the key resistance level.
Technically, BCH’s 24-hour gain reached 6.5%, breaking through long-term trendline resistance near $472 and maintaining its position above the 100-hour Simple Moving Average (SMA). Multiple tests of the $500 level indicate persistent psychological resistance. Support solidified around $490.46, with consolidation occurring between $485 and $492. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) shows upward momentum, and the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) is exhibiting a bullish crossover. A decisive break above $500 could propel BCH towards $505 or even $520. However, the $500 level remains a significant hurdle.
