XRP Early Buyers Accelerate Profit-Taking as Regulatory Wins Bolster XRP Ecosystem

XRP’s recent rally, exceeding a 300% increase for some early investors, is showing signs of profit-taking. While the token’s price has more than tripled since its October 2024 low, surpassing $2, on-chain data reveals significant distribution pressure. Glassnode data indicates a surge in realized profits from XRP wallets, reaching a yearly high of $68.8 million in realized profits in 7-day SMA earlier this month. This suggests early adopters are cashing out, creating a supply overhang and potentially explaining the recent price resistance around $2.20. Despite positive factors like increased regulatory clarity in the U.S. and Ripple’s expansion into tokenized assets, the near-term price action reflects this profit-taking.

A broader market analysis reveals a concerning trend: a significant net outflow of capital from altcoins. CryptoQuant’s analysis shows a negative $36 billion difference in cumulative buy/sell volume for altcoins (excluding BTC and ETH) over the past year. This stark reversal from December 2024’s brief positive period signals a bearish sentiment. Analyst Burak Kesmeci describes this as “altcoin investors MIA,” indicating a lack of investor confidence.

While some altcoins like XRP, SOL, and certain RWA-linked tokens show resilience, the overall altcoin market remains in a bear market. The sustained negative net flow suggests a lack of capital influx into Layer 1s, DeFi, and gaming sectors, dimming hopes for an “altseason.” Therefore, XRP’s impressive rally, though fueled by positive developments, is currently countered by substantial profit-taking, mirroring a broader altcoin market downturn characterized by decreased investor participation and capital outflow. The sustained negative net flow and lack of renewed investor interest pose challenges to the continued upward momentum of XRP and the broader altcoin market. Unless risk appetite increases or capital returns to these sectors, the current bearish trend is likely to persist.
