BitMine Immersion Stock Triples as It Raises $250M for Ether Treasury, Adds Thomas Lee to Board

BitMine Immersion Technologies (BMNR) has significantly expanded its holdings with a $250 million private placement of common stock, aiming to establish a substantial ether (ETH) treasury. This move, slated to close on July 3rd, will position the Las Vegas-based miner among the largest publicly traded holders of ETH. The financing round, priced at $4.50 per share, attracted a diverse group of prominent investors including Founders Fund, Pantera Capital, Kraken, Galaxy Digital, and Republic. Cantor Fitzgerald acted as advisor to lead investor MOZAYYX, while ThinkEquity facilitated the placement of the deal.

BitMine’s strategic decision to prioritize ETH stems from its assessment of Ethereum’s leading role in several key areas. The company highlights Ethereum’s dominance in stablecoin payments, tokenized assets, and decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. By directly holding ETH, BitMine gains access to core protocol-level activities, such as staking and participation in DeFi mechanisms within the Ethereum network.

This strategic shift is accompanied by a change in leadership. Renowned Wall Street figure and crypto bull Thomas Lee, founder of Fundstrat, has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors. Lee’s appointment underscores the increasing convergence of traditional finance and the crypto sector. This development also introduces a new key performance indicator for the company: ether per share.

The company’s decision stands out in the context of the broader crypto treasury landscape. While most publicly traded companies building crypto treasuries concentrate on bitcoin (BTC), BitMine’s focus on ETH is notable. SharpLink Gaming (SBET) is a rare exception, having recently increased its ETH holdings to 188,478.

The successful financing round has already had a dramatic impact on BMNR’s share price, which has more than tripled in premarket trading, reaching nearly $14 per share. This surge reflects the market’s positive response to BitMine’s strategic pivot towards ETH and the infusion of capital from significant investors. The company’s shift towards Ethereum, coupled with the addition of Lee to its leadership, positions BitMine for further growth and influence within the evolving crypto landscape.
