Cardano’s Midnight Begins NIGHT Airdrop Across Eight Chains in Privacy-Powered Rollout
Midnight Network, a Cardano-based privacy sidechain, has launched its inaugural token distribution, the “Glacier Drop,” airdropping NIGHT tokens to users across eight major blockchains. This initiative aims to redefine cross-chain value allocation.
The airdrop, active since Wednesday, rewards wallets holding at least $100 in native tokens—Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), BNB Chain (BNB), Cardano (ADA), Avalanche (AVAX), XRP Ledger (XRP), and Brave (BAT)—as of a June 11th snapshot. A significant portion of the NIGHT supply (50%) is allocated to Cardano ADA holders, followed by Bitcoin holders receiving 20%. The remaining 30% is distributed proportionally among ETH, XRP, SOL, BNB, AVAX, and BAT holders based on their USD value at the snapshot time.
Unlike many airdrops, NIGHT tokens are not immediately tradable. To prevent market manipulation and encourage sustained engagement, their release is staggered over four randomized events within a 360-day period following Midnight’s mainnet launch. The distribution is divided into three phases:
- Claim Phase: A 60-day window for initial token claiming.
- Scavenger Mine: A subsequent 30-day period rewarding on-chain engagement for unclaimed NIGHT tokens.
- Lost-and-Found: A four-year window for users to claim any remaining tokens after the mainnet launch.
Midnight Network distinguishes itself as a zero-knowledge smart contract platform offering selective disclosure, balancing privacy and transparency for regulated applications. The Glacier Drop represents a unique large-scale airdrop, coordinating distribution across multiple Layer 1 networks outside the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) ecosystem. This innovative approach could significantly influence future token distribution strategies for privacy-focused blockchains. The strategic release mechanism incentivizes long-term engagement and mitigates the risk of immediate market saturation often associated with airdrops. The multi-chain approach broadens access and fosters participation across diverse blockchain communities.
