CoinDesk Top Women in Web3 & AI—Methodology
CoinDesk’s inaugural Top Women in Web3 & AI list recognizes 50 influential women shaping the convergence of these two transformative technologies. The list counters the significant underrepresentation of women in blockchain and AI, highlighting their crucial contributions.
The selection process involved a multi-stage approach. Over 300 nominations from various regions were received via social media and expert networks. CoinDesk’s editorial board narrowed these down to 100 semifinalists, anonymizing identifying information to minimize bias. A panel of five judges – Julia Bonafede, Olivia Bolec, Sarah Idahosa, Saruul Krause-Jentsch, and Amélie M. – then evaluated the semifinalists, focusing on innovation, relevance, and influence. Each judge reviewed 20 candidates, providing feedback for the final selection made by CoinDesk’s editorial board.
This collaboration between CoinDesk and Proof of Talk, held at the Louvre Palace in Paris, underscores the growing importance of European engagement in Web3 and AI development and policy. The convergence of these technologies isn’t coincidental. AI’s need for increased computational power and data access aligns with blockchain’s search for applications beyond cryptocurrency. This intersection is evident in areas such as data verification, distributed computing, and digital identity.
Major AI companies are exploring blockchain solutions for data provenance, while crypto projects utilize AI for fraud detection and algorithmic trading. Decentralized artificial intelligence (deAI) is emerging, leveraging blockchain’s computational power to train competitive AI models. The list recognizes the diverse expertise needed for technological advancement, encompassing product development, business strategy, regulatory compliance, and ethical frameworks. As Web3 and AI transition from experimental phases to broader adoption, diverse perspectives become increasingly critical. The selected women are not just participants but authors of this technological narrative, building protocols, leading startups, and shaping governance. Their contributions highlight the importance of inclusivity and diverse perspectives in shaping the future of technology.
