D2X Raises $5M to Expand Crypto Derivatives Exchange for Institutions
D2X, a crypto derivatives exchange catering to institutional investors, has secured €4.3 million ($5 million) in a strategic funding round. This investment round saw participation from several prominent firms, including Circle Ventures, CMT Digital, and Canton Ventures. Existing investors Point72 Ventures, Tioga Capital, GSR, and Fortino Capital also contributed to this funding.
Operating under the EU’s MiFID II regulations as a Multilateral Trading Facility (MTF), D2X distinguishes itself as the first regulated crypto derivatives exchange in a Tier-1 jurisdiction offering seven-day-a-week trading. This continuous operation addresses a crucial need within the institutional market. The platform recently introduced USD-denominated Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) futures contracts, with options on both assets planned for an imminent launch.
The burgeoning crypto derivatives market is witnessing increased activity, with major players like Coinbase and Kraken actively acquiring derivatives platforms and a continuous influx of new offerings. CMT Digital’s Charlie Sandor highlighted D2X’s significance in bridging the gap for institutions seeking regulatory clarity and weekend trading capabilities. Sandor emphasized D2X’s role in establishing a new standard for European crypto derivatives trading.
A key differentiator for D2X is its off-exchange collateral management, facilitated through partnerships with banks. This approach directly addresses the concerns of risk-averse investors apprehensive about centralized custody solutions. The platform’s commitment to regulatory compliance and its innovative approach to collateral management positions it to attract a significant share of the institutional market. This funding round underscores the growing confidence in D2X’s model and its potential to reshape the European crypto derivatives landscape. The introduction of options trading will further solidify its position as a leading platform for institutional investors seeking secure and regulated access to crypto derivatives. The seven-day trading week is a significant advantage in a global market where 24/7 access is increasingly crucial.
