Nano Labs Buys $50M in BNB in $1B Plan to Hold Up to 10% of Supply
Nano Labs, a Nasdaq-listed chip manufacturer, has significantly increased its cryptocurrency holdings by acquiring approximately $50 million worth of Binance’s BNB token. This strategic move positions the company to potentially own up to 10% of BNB’s total supply. The acquisition, executed through an over-the-counter transaction, involved the purchase of 74,315 BNB tokens at an average price of roughly $672.45. This purchase substantially boosts Nano Labs’ digital asset reserves, which now include Bitcoin (BTC) and total approximately $160 million.
This significant investment represents the initial phase of Nano Labs’ ambitious plan to allocate up to $1 billion to acquire BNB. The company intends to finance this substantial investment partly through $500 million in convertible notes, showcasing a strong commitment to the BNB token and its potential for future growth.
The market reacted somewhat negatively to the news, with Nano Labs’ shares experiencing a 4.7% decline on Thursday, followed by a further 2.15% drop in after-hours trading, settling at $8.20. Despite this initial market response, the company’s bold strategy signals a significant bet on BNB’s long-term prospects.
Nano Labs is not alone in its pursuit of accumulating BNB as a treasury asset. A group of former hedge fund executives recently unveiled plans to raise $100 million to invest in BNB through a Nasdaq-listed shell company. This indicates a broader trend among institutional investors recognizing the potential value and strategic advantages of holding significant quantities of BNB. The convergence of institutional interest and significant investment from established players like Nano Labs underscores growing confidence in BNB’s future performance and its role within the cryptocurrency market. This influx of institutional capital into BNB could significantly impact its price and market capitalization in the coming months and years. The strategy employed by Nano Labs and the concurrent interest from other institutional investors highlights the evolving landscape of cryptocurrency investment and the increasing integration of digital assets into mainstream financial strategies.
