Tron Looks to Go Public in the U.S., Form Strategy-Like TRX Holding Firm: FT
Tron, the blockchain network founded by Justin Sun, is poised for a U.S. public listing via a reverse merger with Nasdaq-listed SRM Entertainment. This development, reported by the Financial Times, involves Dominari Securities, an investment firm with connections to the Trump family, managing the transaction. The resulting entity, Tron Inc., will function similarly to MicroStrategy (MSTR), holding a significant amount of Tron’s TRX tokens—a planned $210 million investment. Eric Trump will assume a role within Tron Inc.
This announcement spurred a significant market reaction. TRX experienced a near 4% surge, reaching $0.28, while SRM Entertainment saw its pre-market share price skyrocket by almost 250% to $5.10. The move follows a trend of crypto firms seeking public listings in the U.S., notably exemplified by Circle’s successful IPO, which saw its share price more than triple on its first day of trading.
The relationship between Justin Sun and the Trump family adds another layer to this story. Sun’s attendance at a presidential dinner for TRUMP memecoin holders, his ownership of $75 million in World Liberty Financial tokens (a DeFi project backed by the Trump family), and his public endorsement of Trump’s pro-crypto stance following that dinner highlight this connection. Furthermore, a noteworthy detail is the SEC’s pause of a civil fraud case against Sun after Trump’s inauguration.
Sun’s comments to CoinDesk following the dinner emphasized his belief in Trump’s crypto support and the positive industry momentum. While Tron hasn’t yet commented publicly on the FT report, the proposed merger signifies a major step for the blockchain network, potentially altering its trajectory and solidifying its position within the broader financial landscape. The involvement of the Trump family and the substantial market response underscores the significant implications of this strategic move. The long-term effects on both Tron and the cryptocurrency market remain to be seen.
